Course Description
Everyone shares responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, irrespective of individual roles.

Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023) places a duty on all employers to ensure that their staff are competent and confident in carrying out their responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting children’s and young people’s welfare; the roles and functions of agencies; who does what in protecting children; good practice in working with parents.

This one-day courses which aims to give staff the tools to identify / recognise child abuse and what action to take. It will also teach knowledge and recognition of signs and indicators of abuse; how to refer to your designated person.

It is important for anyone who works in childcare settings to recognise the importance of working in a co-ordinated manner in relation to Child Protection issues. There is now a requirement for all staff working with Children & Young People must undertake this training every 3 years.

This course is aimed at those who work with children in a variety of settings including schools, youth programmes, family support centres, community groups etc. The course aims to enhance awareness and encourage good practice.

Course Objectives:
This course will help participants to: -

·       Complexities of Child Protection

·       What is child abuse.

·       Identifying Abuse.

·       Recognising signs, symptoms and indicators.

·       Identifying behavioural changes.

·       Legislation and guidance.

·       What to do and where to get help if you suspect child abuse.

·       What happens when there is disclosure?

·       Sounding the Alarm.

Who is the safeguarding course for?

·       Staff and volunteers who work with children and young people in:

·       Schools

·       Nurseries

·       Sports teams

·       Alternative education providers

·       Youth centres

·       Family support venues

·       Community groups

·       Leisure centres

·       All other environments where adults have a duty of care to young people.
